Carlyle House Historic Park was founded by founding fathers Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr. The park includes two Victorian houses that are part of the park and is dedicated to the first families to settle in what would become Alexandria. The Park features an extensive lawn, picnic areas and paths. There are several paths that connect the park to the rest of the town. Alexander Hamilton was buried at the Carlyle House. Founding fathers often dined in Gadsby's Tavern, today a museum with historical objects and photos. Carlyle House Historic Park, located along Carlyle Street between Constitution Avenue and Fells Point Road, was originally a mansion belonging to Thomas Carlyle. It was built in 1797 and used by George Washington. The house is now owned by the National Park Service. Visitors can tour the house through the NPS Visitors' Center.
